The Earthshot Prize is the most prestigious global environment prize in history, designed to incentivise change and help repair our planet over the next ten years.
Taking inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot which united millions of people around an organising goal to put man on the moon and catalysed the development of new technology in the 1960s, The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals for our planet which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come.
- Protect and Restore Nature
- Build a Waste-free World
- Fix our Climate
- Clean our Air
- Revive our Oceans
It’s effectively the Nobel Prizes for the environment, and it’s going to cause quite a furore over the next ten years.
To help with the launch of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize on Oct 8th, we were asked to make a series of short films for the Prince’s team. But there’s more… We have been commissioned by the BBC to make a landmark TV series on the Earthshots to be delivered before the first annual prize-giving award ceremony in October 2021, i.e. 12 months away! This series will have 5 x 1hr episodes, one for each of the 5 Earthshot prize categories.
The series will have the high production values of all our work, but will certainly feature people and presenters more than we normally do. As our presenters, we have some quite exciting prospects, including Prince William, David Attenborough, Shakira and Cate Blanchett. “Earthshot: How to Save our World” is the working title, and we intend it to be an energising, ambitious, solutions-focused guide to the sustainable future we can all help to build.
To us, it feels like the perfect next step after the ‘David Attenborough” A life on Our Planet” movie – Sir David’s call to action.
