Silverback Films joined the Royal Television Society West of England Awards which took place in Bristol last night (Sunday 21 April) – it was a night of celebrations and recognition for the incredible individuals and teams behind our productions. After 11 nominations, we scooped 5 awards with Life On Our Planet and Wild Isles receiving outstanding praise.
Our talented Researcher Ellie Jo Hilton won the ‘Flying Futures award’ recognising exceptional emerging talent in behind-the-camera production.
Our ground-breaking Netflix show Life on Our Planet won the ‘Natural History Award’ being hailed by judges as ‘amazing, gripping and epic. This programme should be shown in every classroom across the country to inspire the next generation of filmmakers‘. The Edit Team – Andy Netley, Nigel Buck, Alex Boyle, Rob Davies, Rupert Troskie, Sam Rogers, Dave Pearce, Charles Dyer and Andrew Chastney – won best editing across any genre for the show.
For our landmark Wild Isles series, show Directors Hilary Jeffkins, Alastair Fothergill, Nicholas Gates, Chris Howard and Gisle Sverdrup, won ‘Best Director or Producer of a Programme or Series, in any genre’. Composer George Fenton took the award for best composition of original music for the stunning score.
Lynn Barlow, Chair of RTS West of England, RTS Trustee and Assistant Vice-Chancellor Creative and Cultural Industries Engagement, UWE said “Another outstanding year of winners who are leading the way in global production across all genres. The region goes from strength to strength.”
