Studio Silverback are joining together with India’s top creative and filmmaking talent, led by India’s leading creator economy platform PlucTV, for an impactful new communications initiative. Planet India will launch ahead of G20 Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi this September and celebrate the people of India and their leadership in the effort to protect nature and fight climate change.

This landmark effort will reach 200 million people in India alone with world-class visual content of India’s climate and nature heroes, inviting people to share their own unique Planet India story. The storytelling campaign has been inspired by ‘jugaad’ – the Hindi word which means thinking creatively to solve problems with limited resources, and a philosophy which is driving climate innovation across India.

The world-class footage captured for the project will be shared on the soon-to-be-launched free-to-use Open Planet visual library – a ground-breaking new Silverback project which will change the face of positive environmental filmmaking. Open Planet will allow other storytellers access to content that would have been previously out of reach. Details of the Open Planet platform, launching Autumn 2023, will be announced in the weeks ahead.

Colin Butfield, Co-Founder and Executive Producer of Studio Silverback said, “India is underrepresented in the global discussion of climate and nature solutions, despite the huge amount of innovation and action coming from the people of this country. We have been inspired by what we have seen in India and feel it is vital that we share these stories that matter and have the power to inspire an optimistic global narrative about the role we can all play to save our planet.”

Tamseel Hussain, Founder and CEO of PlucTV said, “India is on the front line of climate change, and we are responding with urgency and creativity to safeguard our beautiful country. Young people and communities from across the country are putting forward tangible solutions to fight the crisis and our creators are driving the conversation forward. This will be the biggest, most innovative storytelling campaign of its kind ever attempted in India and it has been an honour to partner with the makers of Sir David Attenborough’s iconic documentaries that have inspired so many. Planet India is going to change the game.”

Working with some of the best creatives in India, Studio Silverback have filmed climate and biodiversity stories from multiple angles across the subcontinent. In locations ranging from the mountains of Himachal Pradesh to the bustle of New Delhi, the forests of Assam and the lakes of Bangalore, our content series shows how people – all aged 35 or under – are responding with ingenuity to the urgent climate challenge. These human stories have been captured with cinematic sweep though the professional filmmaker’s lens, creating a never-before-seen vision of India’s climate-positive response that will inspire hope, ingenuity, and action to support the planet.

The campaign will be launched to the world at a Planet India gala screening in New Delhi in September. The event will bring together the leading storytellers, environmental leaders, filmmakers, and content creators garnering international attention for India’s climate positive creativity as world leaders gather in the capital for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. This unmissable event will be a major focus for the campaign, showcasing our awe-inspiring Planet India film special and amplifying a positive message to millions of people about this country’s response to the global climate and nature challenge.

Planet India will feature ten world-class, cinematic film shoots of young Indians with positive climate and nature solutions, across the campaign, along with our inspiring short films series. Twenty of India’s leading creators will use this content to produce and share positive Planet India stories. With this content made available to everyone to use, Planet India will be an open- source powered User Generated Content Campaign.
