Considered the highest bar of achievement in natural history filmmaking, the Jackson Wild Media Awards celebrate excellence and innovation in nature, science, and conservation storytelling. Over 500 films entered the competition in 2025 – a record breaking year. Finalists were selected by more than 200 international judges who together screened over 1,000 hours of media.
Ocean with David Attenborough takes viewers on a breathtaking journey showing there is nowhere more vital for our survival, more full of life, wonder, or surprise, than the ocean. In the film the celebrated broadcaster and filmmaker Sir David Attenborough reveals how his lifetime has coincided with the great age of ocean discovery.
Throughout the making of the film, we pushed cinematography in new, innovative directions. Through spectacular sequences featuring coral reefs, kelp forests and the open ocean, Attenborough shares why a healthy ocean keeps the entire planet stable and flourishing. Under the direction of Doug Anderson and Toby Strong, our filming team brought to life the wonder, fragility and remarkable recovery of our ocean as never seen before.
We wanted an original score unlike anything heard in natural history. Emotional, powerful, and featuring human vocals as the ‘voice of the ocean’. The incredible music from composer Steven Price takes audiences on the powerful film journey, from wonder underseas, through the horrors of deep-sea trawling, to Sir David Attenborough’s ultimate message of hope.
Watch the film on Disney+ now and listen to the soundtrack on Spotify.
Congratulations to all our partners, production team and collaborators involved with making this film.
