We’re thrilled that Secrets of the Bees has won Best Animal / Nature Show at the Critics Choice Real TV Awards, recognising its innovative filmmaking and intimate exploration of one of the planet’s most important animals.
Presented by National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory, the two-part series takes audiences into the extraordinary hidden world of bees, revealing their astonishing intelligence, architecture and social complexity. Filmed over three years using pioneering camera technology, we share a rare window into the inner workings of a single hive, capturing behaviours and perspectives that have rarely, if ever, been seen on screen.
From remarkable communication to extraordinary problem-solving abilities, the series shines a light on the diversity and complexity of these often-overlooked animals, inviting audiences to see them in an entirely new way.
But the story extends far beyond a single colony. With more than 20,000 species found across the globe and responsible for pollinating around one-third of the world’s food, bees play a vital role in all our lives.
The Critics Choice Real TV Awards celebrate excellence in unscripted and non-fiction programming, with winners selected by members of the Critics Choice Association. This recognition reflects not only the remarkable story at the heart of the series, but also the creativity, dedication and craftsmanship of the team behind it.
