Held in Bath on Thursday 22 October, the Wildscreen Panda Awards celebrate the very best in natural world storytelling, recognising outstanding creativity, craft and innovation across the global wildlife film and television industry.
A Gorilla Story wins the Golden Panda
The biggest honour of the evening went to A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough, which received the Golden Panda Award for Best Overall Production. Produced by Silverback Films for Netflix in association with Appian Way, the documentary revisits Sir David Attenborough’s extraordinary encounter with Rwanda’s mountain gorillas and explores the lives of gorilla families across generations.
The win marks Silverback’s second Golden Panda in two years, following the success of Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story in 2024.
Further Panda Awards for Secrets of the Bees and Parenthood
There was further recognition for two more Silverback productions:
- Secrets of the Bees: The Hive, produced for National Geographic, won the Cinematography Panda Award, recognising the exceptional work of John Brown and Alastair MacEwen in revealing the hidden world of bees through pioneering filming techniques.
- Parenthood: The Greatest Adventure, produced for the BBC, won the Music Panda Award, celebrating Tom Howe’s beautiful original score for the series.
Keith Scholey honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award
The evening also saw Silverback Films co-founder Keith Scholey receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his remarkable contribution to natural history filmmaking over the past four decades.
From his leadership at the BBC Natural History Unit to co-founding Silverback Films, Keith has played a pivotal role in bringing some of the world’s most ambitious and influential natural history productions to audiences worldwide.
Together, these honours are a wonderful recognition of the extraordinary talent, dedication and creativity of the people behind our productions, and the collaborative effort it takes to bring these remarkable stories to the screen.
A huge congratulations to all the winners, nominees and everyone whose extraordinary talent continues to push the boundaries of natural history storytelling.
